American Eskimo vs Japanese Spitz

GrandMa is here for a visit. She thought I would be a small doggie. She is not used to seeing so much fur. She has not seen an American Eskimo before but said I looked just like a Japanese Spitz. What is the difference between an American Eskimo and Japanese Spitz anyway? Mommie did some research. The Japanese Spitz is always white. American Eskimo can be white with a bit of cream or biscuit color. I have some cream color on my back and tail. Also the Japanese Spitz is ok even if it is hot or cold. Eskies prefer colder climates. We do not tolerate the heat very well. The standard sized Eskie is slightly bigger than the Japanese Spitz. The Japanese Spitz is always small. They are around 12-14 inches and weigh up to 13 pounds. There was not a lot of information about the differences. Most of the stuff she found just said that the country of origin and ancestry are different so one breed should not be mistaken for the other. American Eskimos are believed to be descendants of the German Spitz and the Japanese Spitzes from the Siberian Samoyed. And everything else is pretty much the same between the two breeds. If you look at pictures, you would not be able to tell one breed from the other. They all look the same to me. Anyway, back to GrandMa. She is not sure what to do with me while Mommie is away at the office so I have been demoted to staying in the backyard until Mommie gets home. I found a nice shade near the door where I can sleep the afternoon away.
