Find A Cure For IMHAI was diagnosed with Evans Syndrome in 2006. It is a combination of IMHA/AIHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia/Auto-Immune Hemolytic Anemia) and IMT/ITP (Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia/Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura). I was hospitalized for over a week and received numerous blood transfusions and a cocktail of immunosuppressants to save my life. I was weaned off the medications due to complications such as Cushings Disease but after a few months off the drugs, I relapsed again so I am currently back on medication. I continue to fight this disease everyday. There is no cure for this disease so please help support the fight for a cure. Meisha's Hope Fund and Morris Animal Foundation has teamed up to find a cure for IMHA with Autoimmune/Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia Fund #338. Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia is a serious blood disorder and scientists estimate over 50% of dogs diagnosed with it will die from the condition. Affected dogs show signs of weakness, lethargy, exercise intolerance and anorexia. This deadly blood disorder occurs when something triggers the dog's body to attack its own red blood cells. Despite aggressive immunosuppressive therapy, this disease has a very high mortality rate. Many dogs die shortly after diagnosis, so an effective early treatment is critical. All commissions earned from this design will go to the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Fund #338 at Morris Animal Foundation.

American Eskimo Dog RescueEveryday, people are working together to rescue Eskies and to help them find their forever homes. Show your support for these wonderful people and organizations. All commissions earned from this cartoon American Eskimo dog design will go to Eskie Rescue.

Opt To AdoptMommie adopted me in 2005 and she always says it is the best thing ever. Loving dogs are waiting in shelters around the country to be adopted. Opt to adopt and make a loving forever home for these poor dogs. All commissions earned from this design will go to local animal shelters.

Bored

First off, thanks all for lighting candles for me. Mommie said people lit candles for me from all over the world. That is soooo cool! I felt the love and support from you all.

My doctor has added Imuran to my list of drugs because my PCV is at 28 and my platelets dropped again to 21k. My gums are still pale and I now am having red spots on my ears and belly, and blood in my poop and gums. She said she is not seeing improvement so she wants to add this drug to see if that will help me. It is a good thing none of this stuff happening to me is painful.

I've been pretty sleepy the past few days. And even if I am awake, I cannot play so I am bored, bored, bored. I look at my toys and it is just so phooey that I cannot play with them.

Pesty The Eskie

Did you know there is an Eskie comic strip? Pesty the Eskie (who by the way is also named Casper in real life) has his own comic strip on the American Eskimo Rescue and Sanctuary of Iowa website. I love his comics specially about when they went camping. It's such a hoot. Heehee! Be sure to check it out. His daddy Bill is the artist and he made this special artwork for me. My pal KC and Pesty's daddy are setting up a candle vigil to help me get better. Isn't that so nice of them? I am not yet out of the woods but I just gotta get better now with all this support and the support I have been getting from all of you. Here is the beautiful artwork Bill made for me.

Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the victims, students, faculty and families of Virginia Tech.

It's All Relative

Goodie! My PCV is at 29 from our blood test yesterday. My platelets dropped to 75k and Mommie saw a spot on my belly last night. The doc said that the immunoglobulin is leaving my body which explains the drop because that is the fast acting medicine that was helping to keep my numbers from crashing all the way down. So now it is up to the prednisone and neoral to maintain what that drug started. Hopefully this increase in my PCV will mean that I am on the road to recovery. It is funny how we are now so happy about a PCV of 29 when before this relapse happened, that number would be so devastating coz we were so used to my number being in the upper 30s or in the 40s. I guess it is all relative.

I just watch tv now instead of playing with my toys. But Mommie changes the channel if there is a doggie on coz I get so excited and want to say hello. She also fixed me up some boiled macaroni to go with my chicken coz I was not eating my rice anymore. I am tired of rice so that was a welcome change.

Thanks again all for the well wishes and prayers. I could not do this without your support.

Down Again

Sigh! My PCV is down to 24. The doctor just called and she said I should not move unless to eat or go potty. If I start to throw up or have black poo or if I stop eating, then Mommie has to check me into the hospital. Sniff!

Caspers Galore!

I now know of two other Eskies named Casper who are blogging. Click here and here to check them out. I wonder how many Eskies are named Casper. I know of a few more from the Eskie board and groups. It is a great name. I am sure my namesakes will attest to that. I am known as Casper D Dog. This is coz when Mommie first started my blog, she wanted to call it Casper The Dog. But that account name was already taken so she figured the letter D sounded kinda like the word THE and so Casper D Dog was born. Heehee!

Today, we got the results of my latest PCV. I am down to 29. Yuk! Mommie wishes I was back in the 40s. I feel very tired so I lie down a lot but I cannot sleep coz my steroids keep me awake. My doctor is going to Arkansas this weekend with some other vets and vet techs to save doggies from puppy mills. Isn't she great? I hope they save lots of doggies. She was even featured on the news. Check out this article. To help with donations or homes for these dogs, call Fremont Animal Hospital at (510) 656-1852 or Boulevard Pet Hospital, (408) 379-5554 or info@endpuppymills.com or go to the End Puppy Mills website.

Daily Blood Tests Again

Thanks everyone for praying for me. Mommie has to take me to the doctor to get daily blood tests again so they can monitor me closely to make sure they know if I will need a blood transfusion. I am hoping it will not come to that coz that will mean I will have to stay in the hospital again. That is no fun. I much rather be home with Mommie. She is cooking me chicken with rice and giving me lots of cottage cheese. Yummy! That is the only bright side to being sick. I get to eat all sorts of tasty stuff. None of that dry doggie food. Plus I get to eat bread coz that is where Mommie tries to hide my pills. I eat all the bread and spit out the pills so that she has to give me more bread. Haha! I am still pale but at least there are no red spots or bruising. The doctor sounded hopeful when she spoke to us this afternoon. I wish I could get healthy again. I miss playing with my toys.

Casper Is In Relapse

Hi All!
Please send prayers Casper's way. He relapsed late last night from his Evans Syndrome. His gums and tongue were white so we rushed him to the ER. He is a trooper and is doing his best to fight. He has been fighting this disease for more than a year. And he was doing so well. We do not know what has caused his relapse. But he needs your well wishes and prayers to get him through. The first time, we went through this, it was a miracle he survived. After more than a week in hospital and 3 blood transfusions, an oxyglobin transfusion and loads of medication for months, our prayers were answered. We are hoping our prayers will be answered again.
Regards
Casper's Mom
