Find A Cure For IMHAI was diagnosed with Evans Syndrome in 2006. It is a combination of IMHA/AIHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia/Auto-Immune Hemolytic Anemia) and IMT/ITP (Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia/Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura). I was hospitalized for over a week and received numerous blood transfusions and a cocktail of immunosuppressants to save my life. I was weaned off the medications due to complications such as Cushings Disease but after a few months off the drugs, I relapsed again so I am currently back on medication. I continue to fight this disease everyday. There is no cure for this disease so please help support the fight for a cure. Meisha's Hope Fund and Morris Animal Foundation has teamed up to find a cure for IMHA with Autoimmune/Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia Fund #338. Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia is a serious blood disorder and scientists estimate over 50% of dogs diagnosed with it will die from the condition. Affected dogs show signs of weakness, lethargy, exercise intolerance and anorexia. This deadly blood disorder occurs when something triggers the dog's body to attack its own red blood cells. Despite aggressive immunosuppressive therapy, this disease has a very high mortality rate. Many dogs die shortly after diagnosis, so an effective early treatment is critical. All commissions earned from this design will go to the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Fund #338 at Morris Animal Foundation.

American Eskimo Dog RescueEveryday, people are working together to rescue Eskies and to help them find their forever homes. Show your support for these wonderful people and organizations. All commissions earned from this cartoon American Eskimo dog design will go to Eskie Rescue.

Opt To AdoptMommie adopted me in 2005 and she always says it is the best thing ever. Loving dogs are waiting in shelters around the country to be adopted. Opt to adopt and make a loving forever home for these poor dogs. All commissions earned from this design will go to local animal shelters.

Thinking Of Getting A Dog

Under The Weather

We went to the vet a couple of weeks ago to get a preliminary exam to see if I could get a dental cleaning. Yuck! We got stuck again with the vet Mom did not like. She asked for a different vet but the receptionist said that he was the only vet on duty that day. Bad vet just kept looking at the computer and not at me. All he did was listen to my heart and said I was healthy enough to get a dental cleaning. Mom asked him about my crusty nose and he reluctantly took a look and said to put some Neosporin on it. Mom asked if it could be caused by a vitamin deficiency and he said then buy me vitamins. All the time he was in the exam room with us, he looked like all he wanted to do was leave. Mom was really annoyed. She decided never to take me to that hospital again.

Also, when she bought Neosporin, the label said poisonous so she did not put it on my nose coz she knows I will lick it off. She is just using a wet cloth to wipe the crust off. It seems to be working. My nose is almost back to normal. Although, it hurts when the stuff comes off so she only does a little bit a day.

The day after we went to the vet, I threw up. And I continued to do so every few days and also my poop became less solid by the day. And today, I did not feel like eating. I was gassy and was not my usual energetic self. So we went to a new vet today. New vet was very friendly. He talked to me a lot and told me I was a good doggie. He even let me smell him and his computer. He asked why Mom was tranferring me from the other vet and she explained that she was not happy with how that other vet treated me. New vet said there were a lot of people who transferred to him from that other vet. So that means that other vet really sucks. New vet looked me over pretty thoroughly and answered all Mom's questions. He said I may have eaten something that upset my tummy so I need to fast for 24 hours so that my tummy can rest. Then I should eat boiled rice or boiled burger meat before eventually going back to my regular food. If that does not work then they may need to do a blood test and test my poop to see if there are any intestinal parasites in there. He took a look at my nose and said that so long as Mom is able to control the crust using the washcloth then I should be fine. But if it gets worse then they may need to do a biopsy on my nose. They will take off a piece of my nose. Yikes! That sounds scary. I hope it never comes to that. Once my tummy is ok then he will check me again and then we can go ahead with the dental cleaning.

I'm so glad your mom found a nice vet-there's nothing like a vet who loves pets-huh? not like your old vet, hmm, I wonder he became a vet if doesn't like cute doggies like you?

I'm glad your mom found a good vet. Once my old vet said that I had been exposed to Lyme disease, and told my mommy I could possibly have kidney failure and die. She called back to ask some questions, and the vet didn't call her back for 4 days. So we found a new vet after that.

I'm glad your new vet is better, but your mom should call whoever owns or runs that other hospital and tell them how much the other vet sucked! I would hate for other animals to go to him and not get the treatment they need.

And take it from me, stop eating anything other than what your mommy gives you! Check my blog - I ate some of mom's allergy medicine last Thursday and it was this whole big ordeal..sheesh!

Hi Indy,

Good your Mom got you a new vet, too. That's really bad of him not to return her calls after giving such a scary diagnosis.

Yup, Mom called their director to complain and the lady said they had another vet on staff that we could try but Mom had made up her mind already that she did not want to go back there. She just called to let them know that their vet was no good so that they will give him the feedback and hopefully he will improve.

My new vet is twice as far but
Mommie says it is better to drive farther for better care.

Hi casper,

How's your tummy? I hope you get well soon.

It's great that you've found a new vet. The old vet has already been given one chance too many. Let's hope he wizens up - for the sake of the other future animals that he will see.

Take care and wish you the best of health!

Hi Furkids,
Thanks! My tummy is a little better. I am on a diet of boiled rice as per the vet's instructions so that my tummy can rest. It's so yummy.

Hey Casper,
You should ask your mom if she would help you brush your teeth. My dad helps me brush my teeth almost every night before I go to bed. Tonight we skipped brushing because my tummy is up set and we have company for the weekend. I really like the taste of the toothpastes I use. One is beef and the other is poultry. I guess that is chicken and birds like that. I wonder if I can get bird flu from 'chicken' toothpaste? Arf! Arf!

Glad you went to a new vet who cares about us dogs. Maybe your last vet liked cats more than us. Ruff!

Glad you are feelin' better now.

Woof!

Freda
